It has been disclosed that Etihad Rail intends to build a new passenger service station in Sharjah.
Situated near University City in the emirate, the facility will have access to the main UAE-wide line.
The location is significant since it is close to Sharjah Airport and has many educational institutions in the area.
With the opening of the new station, Etihad Rail will have about 14,000 passengers every day during the week.
Drawings from the signing ceremony on Wednesday depicted a modern Etihad Rail train passing through Sharjah with the emirate’s skyline in the distance.
The signing was witnessed by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, the head of the Etihad Rail board, and Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah.
Sheikh Theyab asserts that Sharjah’s advantageous location—which connects Dubai with the other Northern Emirates and is home to significant centers and landmarks—improves connections between residential communities within the emirates and facilitates passenger movement between network stations.
Naji Al Harthi, chairman of Tristar Engineering and Construction Company, and Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, signed the contract.
The Etihad Rail passenger network aims to link 11 cities and regions across the country, including Sharjah, Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Fujairah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, from Al Sila to Fujairah.
It is not yet known when the passenger train service across the United Arab Emirates will begin.
On the other hand, the first passenger journey on Etihad Rail took place in January, departing from Abu Dhabi and arriving at Al Dhannah.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the managing director and group chief executive of Adnoc, as well as the minister of industry and advanced technology, were among the first passengers.
This route would enable Adnoc staff to travel by train from Abu Dhabi to Al Dhannah, which is located 250 kilometres west of the capital.
Passenger trains have a capacity of about 400 persons and can go at up to 200 km/h.
To cut down on the amount of time spent commuting, customers were advised that their journey durations should allow for 50 minutes to get to Dubai and approximately 100 minutes to get to Fujairah.
